Librarians & Architects: Natural Enemies?

As an Information Architect who has always embraced the “information” appelation but long been queasy about the “architecture” bit, imagine my surprise to come across* this wonderful article by Marvin J Taylor and Andrea Geyer about the long history of tension between librarians and architects around the design of libraries. The article documents the evolution of academic libraries as reflections of most colleges ecclesiastical origins that transitioned to “storehouses to preserve and protect knowledge” and then on to social hubs to support “the interactions of people to create knowledge.” It’s full of good stuff and well worth a read.
